What is the Rookie Race?
The Rookie Race is now available at all Twilight Swim Run events and replaces the earlier advertised Nervous Swimmers Event.
The Rookie Race is open to all ages and is a supportive and safe event for those new to open water swimming. It's the perfect way for swimmers to transition from the Kingi’s (shallow water swimming) to a longer, carefully supervised open water swim.
To ensure a safe and comfortable experience, we've designed this event with no contact between swimmers.
Swimmers are encouraged to bring a personal chaperone to swim alongside them for encouragement and support, such as a parent swimming with a young child for the entire distance.
Adults are welcome to swim in the Rookie event and have an adult chaperone with them on the swim.
The Rookie Race is open to all ages, with one key note for children:
Children under 12 must have a parent confirm with the Swim Director before the event that their child has attended regular swim training and can swim at least 400m continuously in a pool.
Race Details:
Start time: The rookies race starts at 5:45 pm
Swim: One lap of the Swing Course. Swimmers will be carefully spaced at the start and guided around turns to ensure safe water entry and navigation.
Run: 1.5 km.
Awards: There are no awards in the Rookie division, keeping the focus on fun, participation, and building confidence.
